State Farm Insurance
State Farm Insurance (The State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company) was founded in 1922 by George J. Mecherle, a retired farmer. It originally offered automobile insurance to a niche market; farmers. However, the company quickly broadened its product line to include homeowners and life insurance, as well as other financial services.
State Farm Insurance has a long history of success and is well equipped to enjoy even further growth. The company seems to have the required financial strength to position itself for an even larger share of the U.S. insurance market. According to the 2010 issue of Fortune 500, State Farm was ranked 34th in a list of U.S. companies by revenue. In fact, it is one of the largest mutual property and casualty insurance companies in the world. Policy-holders should care about this information because it indicates a company’s ability to pay outstanding obligations; for State Farm, that would be insurance claims.
State Farm exhibits community caring. One of its biggest charitable programs is a partnership with several state highway departments, such as the one in Maryland, to operate a motorist assistance service called the State Farm Safety Patrol. This service is available to aid motorists who find themselves stranded on certain state highways, providing such services as engine oil, fuel or radiator refills. The State Farm Safety Patrol personnel are also certified to perform CPR or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) if necessary. (The service is available in certain parts of Colorado, Florida and Pennsylvania, in addition to the aforementioned Maryland.)
The well-known company jingle (“Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”) seems like it has been around forever. It has actually only been around since the early 1970’s when it was written by American star Barry Manilow. Actually, that might be a lifetime for many State Farm policy holders
