Automobile Insurance Companies in the U.S.
There are hundreds of personal automobile insurance companies in the US and thousands more around the globe. Some of these companies are new, and some have been around for what seems like forever. They are privately owned, publicly owned or even run by state government. The more reputable companies in the US have been in existence for almost a century or more. Insurers offer discounts for a multitude of reasons from good grades (for young drivers), to safe driving history, to discounts for having multiple vehicles on a policy or multiple lines of insurance in the same household (for example, automobile, homeowners or renters, and life insurance). Some carriers even offer premium discounts to their own employees. An insurer may offer partial or full deductible waivers after the policy holder has gone a certain amount of time without an accident or claim. Many people wish to be insured by a company that has been in existence for a long time and/or has a good reputation for fairness or community involvement. Other people may choose to buy their automobile insurance based on price alone, switching from company to company every few years in the never-ending search for the lowest premiums. Still other customers will leave their insurance company because of a bad experience with claims handling or billing. Keeping a policy with the same insurance company for years makes a customer finally profitable to that insurance carrier, and also makes the company really want to keep that profitable customer. Here is a list of some of the larger and more well-known automobile insurance companies in the United States. Please click on any highlighted name for an overview of the company.
