Progressive Insurance Also Offers Pet Insurance
He's so cute: doesn't he deserve insurance too?
The Progressive Insurance Company sells Pet Insurance through Pets Best. This is not to be confused with Progressive’s Pet Injury Coverage which is part of its automobile insurance policy offerings and only covers pet cat or pet dog injuries sustained in covered automobile accident, theft or fire related claims. The Pet Insurance covers far more than the injury coverage.
Pet Insurance will cover a wide range of a covered pet’s medical expenses including those for illness, hospitalization, prescription medicine, surgery, cancer treatment and accidents (not just auto accidents). Routine pet care such as vaccinations, annual check-ups and even teeth cleaning is also covered.
If your pet does need medical attention, there are no restrictions on where he or she may be treated; you take your pet to the veterinarian of your choice. (This can be anywhere in the world, so this should relieve some of the worry about international travel with your pet.) You will pay a per-incident deductible (just like auto insurance), and then submit a claim with documentation to the insurer. The official website promises a process time of ten days or less. You will receive an 80% reimbursement of qualifying expenses.
It is important to note that any pre-existing injury or illness would not be covered, so it is recommended that you buy pet insurance when your pet is young (Pets Best will accept enrollment of pets 7 weeks and older), before such things pop up. There is no upper age limit.
Like any other insurance, there are certain things that will not be covered. Those would include such things as congenital defects (present at birth), food (including prescription), vitamins and supplements, boarding, grooming, procedures which are cosmetic, preventive or elective, and pre-existing conditions.
The cost for such a policy starts around $20.00 per month. Rates vary by the age, breed, and species of your pet, as well as where you live. You can contact Pets Best (petsbest.com) for a policy directly, but you can save 5% simply by getting your pet insurance policy quote through Progressive; just call your agent or go online to their official website. There is also a discount for insuring multiple pets.
